Warrens of the Stone Giant Thane
I call upon Ogremoch to shatter your bones an devour your hearts! — Utanu the Seer
1. Retrieve the Battle Standard
bq). Stone giant marauders attacked an elven military encampment and stole a battle standard, atop which was a golden falcon. The elves take it as a sign of ill omen that the falcon was lost. Return it to them if you can.
2. Find the Peace Delegates
bq). A delegation sent to negotiate a truce with Thane Arnak never returned. The group included a human noble named Merlian Saar, his two human body guards, and their guides — a pair of goliaths. Find and rescue any survivors.
3. Fracture the Alliance
bq).Convince Thane Arnak to break his alliance with the other giant lords.
This quest is to break the alliance. Killing Thane Arnak will not Grant XP.
Travel to the Howling Crag
The group travels to the elven village where the Standard is from and verifies a few details about its appearance and the circumstances of the disappearance. The stone giants are not usually agressive and a peaceful truce has been there as long as anyone can remember. Something has changed in recent months. A guide is sent with them to help navigate to the area. He stays behind in a cave not far from the Howling Crag.
A meandering trail through the foothills turns into a road of carefully set stones. After a mile, the road widens and climbs an escarpment leading up to a rocky crag several hundred fee high. Three naturally formed cones rise another 150 feet above the crag’s peak like the spires of a crown.
A huge bird (roc) with a stone giant riding it circles high above.
Entering the Crag
Precautions to stay hidden are taken and a long climb up the back of the cliff lead to an opening into the temple.
Eye of Ogremoch
This cave is come kind of temple, its high ceiling supported by a natural column of rock. A sculpted store altar rises from the floor, and upon it rests the carcass of a skinned, mounted boar. Decorating the wall behind the altar is mural made of red clay and chalk that depicts a massive creature resembling a walking mountain. Chalk figures of stone giants dance and cower at its feet.
A howling wind enters the temple through a northwest opening. Curtains hiding two smaller caves flap in the wind. A passage to the south turns into a ramp leading down, guarded by several burly creatures made of living rock.
Standing in the middle of the room is a stone giant with red clay smeared in jagged lines across his rocky flesh. A third eye grows in the middle of his forehead, and all three eyes study you carefully as the giants clenches his fists.
The creature in the mural is Ogremoch, and evil primordial.
Utanu the Seer is defeated. During the battle he is heard saying “Thieves! Come to steal Ghal-Thrad. Ogremoch will not let you leave here alive”
There are two side rooms that were searched after successfully defeating Utanu. They revealed a room that Utanu most likely slept in and another that once slept a dwarven female. A brush with hair and a set of armor with dwarven marks on it are the only clues. Perhaps she is still alive somewhere.
